Mayor of London announces £1.2m investment to promote game dev scene in the capital
Mayor of London and the London Enterprise Panel are investing £1.2m to start the Games London initiative and a host a new London Games Festival.
Boris Johnson, mayor of London, has announced a new programme that aims to give the local games industry a boost and help make London the games capital of the world. Johnson, along with the London Enterprise Panel, are giving the UK games industry £1.2m to launch the programme, called Games London.
The three-year programme will be delivered by Ukie and Film London, and will, with help from the Video Games Tax Relief, attract new investment in the industry, shine a light on the London development scene, and create jobs.
A new, annual London Games Festival will also be part of this initiative. It will be held April 1-10 and will include a networking event, as well as well-established events such as EGX Rezzed and the BAFTA Game Awards.
