Mass Effect movie handed over to new scriptwriter

Legendary Entertainment has given a Mass Effect fan the chance to pen the script for its upcoming adaptation of the BioWare sci-fi epic.

Variety reports Morgan Davis Foehl has been chosen to tackle the script; if his name is unfamiliar, that's because he's yet to see one of his projects make the big screen - but his 2009 effort Whatever Gets You Through the Night garnered praise and he's behind the upcoming Crosshair, too.

Foehl is a Mass Effect fan and his past works are strongly action-oriented, which apparently pleased the production company. He was brought on board to write a new script after Mark Protosevich's apparently didn't meet with approval, despite past credits on Thor and I Am Legend.

The film is being jointly produced by prolific gaming fans Ari and Avi Arad alongside Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni. BioWare co-founders Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk, along with Mass Effect lead Casey Hudson, are on board as executive producers.
