The best Mass Effect texture mod brings Legendary Edition updates to original trilogy

The A Lot of Textures mod that adds a graphical overhaul of the entire Mass Effect Original Trilogy is now also available for the Legendary Edition.

Can’t get enough Mass Effect? Well then, we have good news for you. A huge new mod, available now for the PC version of both games, has been released that improves both the original sci-fi trilogy and the recently re-released Legendary version of the game. You can find the downloads for ME1ME2ME3, and ME LE at the corresponding links.

The mod's goals were two-fold: firstly, creators wanted to port various Legendary Edition textures back to the original trilogy. Secondly, they wanted to replace "inferior" Legendary Edition textures with ALOT's textures – meaning that the new game basically looks even better than it did thanks to the mod.

The update also fixes the lighting in the Legendary Edition – something that’s been picked up and criticized by the gaming community at large, so it's nice to see it being addresed by the community.

As a result, the Improved Static Lighting (ISL) component has been upgraded for the Legendary Edition. “As the name implies, this component overhauls the pre-rendered lighting and shadows heavily used in the Legendary Edition, that have seen no improvement compared to the original trilogy," according to a post announcing the updates on Reddit.

This is a pretty huge mod: it ports “several hundred” textures from the Legendary Edition back into the original trilogy, and makes the installation of the entire mod more easily achieved, too.

If you want to see just how different the newly-released Bioware trilogy is from the original, here's every scene in Mass Effect Legendary Edition's trailer side-by-side with the original games. You can also download an FOV slider mod here, too.

Our own Alex Donaldson once took to the page to remind you that if you skip the original Mass Effect in Legendary Edition, you’re a fool.
