Mass Effect: Andromeda's multiplayer will reintroduce a player race

BioWare is bringing a classic Mass Effect race to the Andromeda galaxy.

We're still not quite sure what's happening with Mass Effect: Andromeda's single-player DLC, but it's clear that multiplayer updates are full speed ahead. BioWare recently proved as much in an announcement for Platinum difficulty APEX multiplayer, complete with a reveal that batarians would be introduced as a playable race.

Batarians were introduced in the original Mass Effect trilogy as a notoriously unfriendly, but not necessarily villainous species. What's unusual is the batarians were never featured in Mass Effect: Andromeda, presumably left behind to deal with the Milky Way Galaxy's ultimate fate.

It's not clear whether batarians will bring any benefits to multiplayer - perhaps better accuracy thanks to their many eyes - but we'll find out once the Platinum difficulty update rolls out.
