Mass Effect: Andromeda editor exits BioWare, games industry

The Mass Effect: Andromeda team must say goodbye to senior editor Cameron Harris.

Not content with bidding adieu to just Mass Effect: Andromeda and BioWare, Harris will be exiting the games industry altogether.

You can read the whole tweet thread here.

Harris's skill and experience will be missed. As well as her work on Star Wars: The Old Republic and Dragon Age: Inquisition for BioWare, she lent her talents to ArenaNet, Microsoft and Nintendo over the years. She was invited to speak at GDC 2014, foregrounding the importance of editing in game development - a role that is often overlooked. Best of luck for whatever comes next, Cameron.

This is only the latest in a series of departures from the Mass Effect: Andromeda team at Montreal. In this instance Harris seems to have been tempted to get out of games altogether, and writer Christopher Schlerf elected to return to his hometown of Seattle. Andromeda development director Chris Wynn left back in December to join the H1Z1 team.

Although it's tempting to speculate on this miniature exodus, games industry turnover is rapid; it often feels like all the senior, high-profile names are playing musical chairs, especially when projects shift from one phase to another, allowing key figures to exit without upsetting any apple carts. You may recall Dragon Age writer David Gaider left BioWare Edmonton to be reunited with Baldur's Gate at Beamdog recently, too - another instance of an opportunity likely too good to knock back.

EA recently confirmed that Mass Effect Andromeda is scheduled for early 2017, news we've been expecting since January.
