The "overwhelming majority" of PS4 titles will be playable on PS5

Sony has posted an update regarding PS5 backward compatibility, stating the majority of PS4 titles will be playable on the new system.

According to Sony, the team behind PS5 has made "significant efforts" to enable PS4 users to play their favorite games on the upcoming console.

The company said the "overwhelming majority of the 4,000 plus PS4 titles will be playable" on the console.

"We’re expecting backward compatible titles will run at a boosted frequency on PS5 so that they can benefit from higher or more stable frame rates and potentially higher resolutions," reads the post on the PS Blog.

"We’re currently evaluating games on a title-by-title basis to spot any issues that need adjustment from the original software developers."

Earlier this week, Mark Cerny stated in his PS5 presentation the 100 most-played PS4 titles would be backward compatible. Sony has already tested hundreds of titles and are "preparing to test thousands more" as it moves toward launch.

PS5 is slated for release holiday 2020.
