This is why gaming subreddits are offline

A few of the most popular gaming subreddits have been set to private in protest.

R/gaming, r/GTAV, r/Fallout, and many of the most popular gaming and non-gaming subreddits have been set to private, blocking all user access to protest the firing of a Reddit employee.

Victoria Taylor, and admin and the Reddit staff member responsible for arranging Ask Me Anything (AMAs) opportunities with high-profile users, has reportedly been fired following an AMA with US civil rights activist Jesse Jackson. The reasons for her firing are unclear, as Reddit has yet to offer a comment.

This will only affect your favourite subreddits temporarily, though other ones that are live now may choose to join in later. R/games - the other major gaming subreddit, will not be going offline.

"While we are sympathetic to the situation at hand, it is not in our interest of maintaining this subreddit to set it to private and join this protest," reads the announcement.

There is a full list of participating subreddits, as well as a thread covering live updates.

Thanks, Destructoid.
