"Major hit" Monster Hunter X sells over 3M - Capcom Q3

Monster Hunter X and Dragon's Dogma Online were highlights of Capcom's third quarter.

Capcom has posted financial results for its third quarter, ending December 31 2015. Year to date, the company recorded net sales of ¥57.06 billion ($480 million), up ¥9.23 billion ($77 million) on the same quarter 2014. Profits are up 9% year-on-year and operating income increased 5.2%.

Monster Hunter X has sold over 3 million units, Capcom said, exceeding its forecasts of 2.5 million units, and constituting a "major hit". The publisher did not specify whether it meant sell-in (shipped) or sell-through.

As for the quarter's other new releases, Sengoku Basara 4 Sumeragi performed well on PlayStation 3 and PS4, while 3DS title Daigyakutensaiban did not. Sales of older releases likes Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and Resident Evil Revelations 2 and DLC were "firm" - especially outside Japan.

Dragon's Dogma Online has been "strong", Capcom said, while Monster Hunter Online is "off to a good start" in China. In the mobile sphere, Monster Hunter Explore surpassed 3 million downloads.

In general, the digital contents (non-arcade games) segment saw an 11% year-on-year increase in year-to-date sales. At ¥36.08 billion ($303 million), games account for about 63% of Capcom's total sales revenue for the year-to-date.

Outside of this segment, arcade year-to-date sales decreased 5.4% while amusement equipment (mostly pachinko) rocketed upwards with an 87% increase in sales - although income didn't budge much.
