Madden NFL 25 shifts 1 million sales in first week

Based on internal estimates, EA Sports believes Madden NFL 25 was the best-selling game of August.

In a press release, EA said Madden 25 had sold-through more than 1 million units in its first week at retail, making it North America's best-selling game for the month by the publisher's own estimate.

Gamers racked up 6 million hours of play time with the title in its first week - more than 600 years worth. Interestingly, Seahawks vs 49ers was selected three times more than any other matchup.

Ultimate Team fans opened 3.3 million packs, "the most in any single week since Ultimate Team was introduced in Madden NFL 10", and Saturday marked the highest day for net revenue in Madden Ultimate Team history.

These are large numbers indeed, but GamesIndustry noted that's a significant drop from Madden 13's record-breaking 1.65 million first week sales.

That said, EA Sports did not provide digital sales figures, and some fans may be holding off for the next gen version, which arrives alongside the PS4 and Xbox One in November.

"It's a big year for our fans as we launch Madden NFL 25 for two different hardware generations, and we're pleased with the early results for the Xbox 360 and PS3. We're confident we can sustain this momentum as we move towards the launch of next generation consoles this Fall with the most innovative Madden NFL yet," EA Sports executive vice president Andrew Wilson said.
