ZeniMax has formally announced its acquisition of European development studio MachineGames, based in Uppsala, Sweden, confirming business registration data that surfaced last week.

MachineGames was founded back in July by ex-Starbreeze co-founder Magnus Hogdahl and lead designer Jerk Gustafsson. Both worked on The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher’s Bay and The Darkness.

The studio is currently at work on an unannounced, triple-A project for Bethesda using the id Tech5 engine, with Gustafsson overseeing development as executive producer.

“Working with our new colleagues at id and the world class publisher, Bethesda Softworks, is a tremendous opportunity," said Gustafsson. "MachineGames has assembled a dedicated team that has extensive experience working together to produce quality games.

"We are excited to create a new AAA title for gamers on id Tech 5 that will push the game development envelope."

MachineGames join recent ZeniMax acquisitions id, Arkane and Tango Gameworks.
