Lego Star Wars: Microfighters pops up on iOS App Store

Lego Star Wars: Microfighters is the latest post-Disney acquisition Star Wars game to slide into the world with a minimum amount of fanfare.

Like yesterday's Star Wars: Assault Team, it's a mobile game and we didn't get a press release about it; it's evidenced only by an iOS App Store listing.

A top-down shooter, Lego Star Wars: Microfighters goes for $1.29 and includes X-wings, TIE Fighters, Clone Tanks, Star Destroyers, Droid ATTs and the Millennium Falcon, with the player able to choose the Light or Dark side. It also boasts 18 fully destructible levels, 35 enemy types, eight boss battles, and four worlds (Endor, Geonosis, Hoth and Yavin, if you must know).

Although I'm jibing Disney for the way all these new Star Wars games are going unpublicised, this one was published by Warner Bros., although it's not clear if it was developed by Traveller's Tales. Like the TT games, though, it has a progression system based on collecting Lego studs.

This is one for iOS 6 users only, and you probably want a newer iDevice, as it comes with a warning about high memory usage despite being optimsied for iPhone 5.

As I'm sure everyone is aware by now, Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012 and promptly closed the game development section, LucasArts. Since then, it's done very little besides farm the console license out to EA for DICE's Battlefront and allow a few mobile titles, but Warner. Bros seems to have held onto the Lego license.

Thanks, Polygon.
