Left Alive sure looks a lot like a Metal Gear sequel with mechs in the first gameplay trailer

Left Alive is quickly becoming one of the hottest games at this year's TGS.

Following an initial announcement that revealed the involvement of Front Mission, Armored Core, and Metal Gear Solid developers, Square Enix released new information and a new trailer.

The trailer, seen below, shows our first glimpse at gameplay. Though these snippets are short, they reveal many interesting details about the nature of the game.

Yoji Shinkawa's influence on design is clear here, making Left Alive look more like it takes place in the Metal Gear Solid universe. Beyond that, the most recent Famitsu issue (via Gematsu) featured plenty of details about the game that weren't shared anywhere else.

The game's story is centred around an event "The One Day Incident." It takes place in a Russian town, and the events are set between Front Mission 5 and Front Mission Evolved. There are three protagonists, which you may have inferred from the first piece of promo art. We now also know that you'll be able to play as each one of them throughout the game's story.

The mechs are called Wanzers, and you'll mostly be fighting against them. You can, however, take them a way from enemies and command them yourself. There's a crafting component in Left Alive, but we're not sure how many of the game's items can be crafted. From the Famitsu preview, it sounds like the game won't have a typical open-world setting.

Instead, it'll be level/stage-based but you'll be able to move through each one freely and decide your own approach. Each of the three protagonists are said to be working for their own gains, and depending on the path you take in the campaign, you'll get variations on the main ending.

Finally, we also learn that Left Alive will be an offline game, though the team is supposedly working on some online elements.

Left Alive is out in 2018 on PC, and PS4.
