Latest Steam survey shows gradual XP decline

Valve's released its December Steam survey figures, showing drops in the popularity of the 32-bit version of Windows XP.

Windows XP 32-bit usage among Steam users fell 0.85 percent to 24.64 percent in December over November, while the apparently amazingly unpopular Windows XP 64-bit picked up a tiny 0.11 percent to 0.91 percent overall.

Windows 7 64-bit is by far the most popular OS among Stream users, accounting for running 35.09 of all Steam machine, up 0.91 percent month-on-month.

The diminishing use of Windows XP among PC gamers was highlighted earlier today when DICE admitted that the OS won't be supported by Battlefield 3.

XP was originally launched in 2001.

Other trends shown by the Steam figures include the rise of quad-core chipsets and gradual introduction of DX11-capable GPUs.
