The Last of Us turns five after 17 million sales

The Last of Us launched five years ago today, and odds are high that you have already played it.

The main reason everyone is getting so excited about The Last of Us Part 2 is because the original game was so damn good. That's as good an excuse as any to celebrate the PS3 launch of Naughty Dog's latest series and its 17 million sales.

Naughty Dog confirmed the information via Twitter today, stating that 17 million copies have sold as of April 2018. Now that The Last of Us Part 2 has been revealed, that may have gone up a notch or two.

The Last of Us first launched for PS3 on June 14, 2013, where it quickly became one of the biggest, critically-acclaimed hits of the generation. The PS4 console followed later that year, prompting Naughty Dog to immediately make technical enhancements for a remastered edition. (By the way, that PS4 edition sold a million copies by itself in a single month.)

Here's to The Last of Us turning 5, and here's to Part 2 welcoming us back into its world. And probably crushing our hearts.
