Lair of the Clockwork God is an interesting mix of classic adventure and modern platformers - see it in action

Size Five's latest project brings back Ben, and Dan.

Ben, and Dan, protagonists of Ben There, Dan That, as well as Time Gentlemen, Please, return in Lair of the Clockwork God. This is the latest game from maker Size Five, and it has a bit of a unique twist.

Ben There, Dan That is an old-school point-and-click adventure, but Size Five's recent work - like The Swindle - belongs in the action platformer genre. In Lair of the Clockwork God, the developer hopes to marry both styles in an interesting way.

Each character essentially follows its own rules. Ben is the adventure protagonist who picks up any item he comes across and constantly stops to try if any of them are needed to solve the next puzzle. Dan, on the other hand, is fond of platformer heroes, so he's happy to jump and move stuff around.

Studio head Dan Marshall explained that Lair of the Clockwork God has the structure of a modern platformer, with the puzzle depth of an adventure game. The intent, however, is to make it more streamlined than classic adventure games tend to be, with context-sensitive prompts and options to take out unnecessary objects.

It'll all make sense when you see it in action.

Lair of the Clockwork God is out this summer on PC, and unspecified consoles. You can wishlist it on Steam in the meantime, where the rest of Size Five's catalogue is heavily discounted for a limited time.
