Koei Tecmo is following up Fire Emblem: Three Houses with Romance of the Three Kingdoms 14

Koei Tecmo is returning to its Romance of the Three Kingdoms series early next year.

The development team, which recently worked on the extremely good Fire Emblem: Three Houses, will release a fourteenth game in the long-running series, which began in 1985.

The Romance of the Three Kingdoms games are turn-based strategy games as well, and each entry has offered up a tweaked experience from what has come before. The most recent game in the series, Romance of the Three Kingdoms 13, released in 2016.

The game's trailer doesn't show off gameplay from the new entry, but instead focuses on the history of the series, showing each previous entry to denote how far the games have come.

According to a press release sent out alongside the trailer, this game will be set in ancient China, during the fall of the Han Dynasty. It'll be all about capturing territory across the map, and will pay tribute to the original game with its simplified presentation.

"Everything from war to diplomatic affairs will be geared toward managing and gathering land as players attempt to spread their strategies at will across the vast China map", the release promises. This entry will use the ruler-based system seen in the ninth and eleventh games in the series, meaning that all actions happen across a single map. It'll feature 'Evolved Artificial Intelligence' too, apparently.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms 14 is coming to PC and PS4 in early 2020.
