Kinect becomes 3D capture tool thanks to hack

Want another reason why Kinect got an open-source hack last week? Here you go, then.

Someone's posted up videos of Kinect being used as a 3D capture tool.

The first video shows the dude, or at least part of him, in a 3D enviroment.

The second shows physical objects in 3D, like the retail Kinect packaging. The box is measured by the tool after being physically sized by a ruler.
