Killer Instinct balancing to be tweaked in the cloud, not via patches

Killer Instinct's character data will be stored on Microsoft's cloud servers, allowing Double Helix to issue balancing changes on the fly rather than via patches.

Speaking with GameInformer, producer Torin Rettig explained the unusual setup for the launch day Xbox One fighter.

"All of our variables that go into how a character behaves are going to exist basically in the cloud. Without having to content update or patch the game at all, we can just go in on the cloud and tweak these variables without the player having to know," he said.

Fewer title updates is a good thing, of course, but fighter fans are likely to have a few concerns. Happily, Rettig said Double Helix will prodice notes for all tweaks, and won't be making rapid changes without allowing time for the community to adjust to them.

"We need to be very careful about doing knee-jerk kind of tweaks to the game," he said.

Killer Instinct is a downloadable free-to-play fighter which will launch alongside the Xbox One in November. A reboot of the classic Rare series, it has one all-new character - Sadira.

Thanks, Shoryuken.
