Katamari Damacy to be showcased at MOMA

Keita Takahashi's masterful game about collecting All The Things is to be honoured at one of the world's top art galleries.

Destructoid reports Katamari damacy will be included as part of a new exhibit at New York's Museum of Modern Art. That's a seriously big deal, if you're not au fait with the modern art scene.

The exhibit is called Century of the Child: Growing by Design 1900-2000, and was inspired by Ellen Key's book The Century of Child. It opened on July 29 and will be on show until November 5.

As for the rest of the exhibit, it apparently examines how children and childhood ideas influence modern art and design, with an emphasis on playfulness and curoisty - so that sounds like kind of a blast even without one of my favourite games.

Bonus facts: Katamari Damacy is a kind of critique on capitalist culture, but went on to spawn a number of sequels and spin-offs. Creator Takahashi became so disillusioned with the games industry that he left to design playgrounds, and was only lured back by the chance to join Glitch creator Tiny Speck.
