Just Cause 4's extreme weather will challenge Rico and enemies

In a new gameplay showcase, Avalanche Studios explains what effects Just Cause 4's weather will have on gameplay.

Just Cause 4's trailers have already covered the series fundamentals pretty well - hookshot, explosion, wash, rinse, repeat. The most noticeable difference this time are extreme weather patterns like tornadoes and lightning storms. During today's Square Enix E3 presentation, Avalanche Studios looked at how these elements will influence gameplay in more detail.

In short, if the sun is shining and there isn't a cloud in the sky? Players can expect a mostly familiar Just Cause gameplay experience. The risks increase when a storm arrives. Players might have to deal with a disruptive tornado, a damaging lightning blast, or even a blinding sandstorm. Beyond in-game characters, these storms will also uproot trees, fling vehicles around, and generally devastate your surroundings.

These elements are definitely challenging for Rico, but they also can be opportunities. Each storm will also disrupt enemy activity, which gives players the chance to sow greater chaos in the sandbox world. Once you have a handle on how each storm operates, you can adjust your strategy accordingly. Who's ready to hookshot a car being carried by a tornado?

Weather is only one change Avalanche is making to Just Cause 4. The AI has been overhauled to be more challenging, and handling mechanics have been tweaked for vehicles like bikes and cars. Most significantly, your grapple is updated with additional tethers and a booster rocket, creative more strategically chaotic gameplay opportunities.

Just Cause 4 will launch for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on December 4, 2018.
