Iwata: 1.5 million 3DS units shipping this FY in Japan, 2.5 million elsewhere

Ahead of the third and final day of Nintendo World in Japan in just a couple of hours, president Satoru Iwata has confirmed the company will ship a combined 4 million 3DS units worldwide by the end of FY 2011.

According to a Wall Street Journal Japan report, Iwata is quoted as saying that 1.5 million units will ship in Japan by March 31, with 2.5 million going elsewhere in the world.

This past weekend, Nintendo's been holding a public event outside of Tokyo, Nintendo World, where the Japanese public has gained its first hands-on of 3DS.

It's also confirmed the Japanese launch line-up in the country at the event this past weekend. Details on the past two days are here and here.

Today will see the same AR and music panels from the past two days, with the final two dev sessions coming from Nintendo, who will show Nintendogs + Cats, and Level 5.

President Akihiro Hino will present the latter, where Japanese launch title Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask will be shown, although don't be too surprised if you see other 3DS titles from the company, like Time Travelers.

3DS releases in Japan on February 26. Europe and the US get it in March. Details and launch titles are expected to be confirmed at events in Amsterdam and New York on January 19.

Thanks, GAF.
