Itagaki's team using modified version of Relic's engine for Devil's Third

Valhalla Games Studios head Tomonobu Itagaki has said the firm will use a customized version of Relic's game engine with Devil's Third, and adding its own choice of middleware.

"We're customizing Relic's engine," Itagaki told Gamasutra in an interview, adding that the ability to use and modify an existing game engine wasn't the reason the studio chose to work with THQ.

Itagaki also confirmed to Gamasutra that CEO Danny Bilson is working on the game's narrative sequences, based on a story created by Itagaki and the development team.

He went on to say working with THQ has been rather easy for his staff as well, thanks to the publisher having a large Japanese staff via Yuke, which is working on the WWE franchise.

"THQ, since they're making games with Yuke's, they have a lot of people who speak Japanese," he said. "Since I speak simple English, I can convey my message. But my staff is probably quite relieved, because THQ has Japanese-enabled people."

Devil’s Third will be released on PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360.
