It sounds like The Elder Scrolls Online's new player housing system will be super customisable

The Elder Scrolls Online makes Skyrim's housing system look pretty boring by comparison.

The next big update for The Elder Scrolls Online is called Homestead, and is due in February 2017. The free content drop finally introduces player housing, and in a pretty impressive way.

There will be "nearly 40" unique homes to choose from when you start building your TESO home base, and with over 2,000 furniture items and decorations, you've got a good chance of putting together something totally unique. Take a look at the trailer above to get an idea of what's possible with the in-game tools.

Your journey to home ownership in this version of Tamriel begins with the Homestead tutorial quest, which grants you a home space in an inn. After that you can choose your own basic home from a range of dwellings based on the ten playable races of The Elder Scrolls. Choose furnished to move right in or unfurnished to customise.

You can choose from almost any home style regardless of race or affiliation, and they range from "a cozy tree home in Greenshade to a charming villa in Malabal Tor to a sprawling manor estate in The Rift". Only Imperial homes will be restricted, to owners of the Imperial Edition.

Homes are account based so all characters can use them, and you can buy as many as you like. You can buy games with in-game gold or Crowns, although the fanciest fully-furnished ones are only available for Crowns (but you can craft furniture yourself, of course). Premium, Crowns-only homes will be added in future updates.

Before you can buy a home you'll need to prove yourself to the local residents, which reminds me of Skyrim. Skyrim's houses all turned out much the same, though - even the ones you could build yourself. Read more about all of this on The Elder Scrolls blog.

The TESO faithful can try Homestead on the PTS from January.
