iOS and Android cross-platform play soon possible with Google Play

During the Game Developers Conference this week, Google announced that developers will soon be able to offer cross-platform play between iOS and Android devices.
Multiplayer support for iOS has been added to the Google Play game services tool, and updates to the Unity engine plug-in now allow developers to implement cross-platform play between iOS and Android devices.
These updates were announced among other new features, including increasing to the number of game categories on the Play store to 18, and a service allowing users to gift their purchases to others.
