The Initiative confident Perfect Dark won't be like other FPS

Sounds like the shooter will be a light in the dark.

Microsoft's The Initiative studio has shared some information about how it is approaching its new Perfect Dark project.

In a video on YouTube, some of the top developers on the project discussed how they are trying to make the title different from other first-person shooters on the market. The studio says it is trying to make moving in the game interesting and giving players lots of options for negotiating through a situation.

"We are leaning very heavily on: 'What is a secret agent?'," game director Dan Neuburger said. "There's a lot of gameplay diversity that comes into that and we aren't shying away from that."

Drew Murray, design director added: "One of the things we thought about was how to differentiate what we call 'spy fighting' versus what you'd see in a traditional first-person shooter."

"[You'll be] sliding under things, jumping over things. We really wanted to play up the physicality and being in the world, getting some of that camera movement that we see watching body cameras, GoPros, and trying to get that excitement of moving in places and in ways that you and I don't."

It's long been rumoured that Microsoft's The Initiative was working on a new entry in the Perfect Dark series. The title was revealed yesterday at The Game Awards.

The Perfect Dark franchise debuted in 2000 for the Nintendo 64. Made by Rare, it was a spiritual successor to the studio's hugely successful first-person shooter GoldenEye. The IP also landed on the Game Boy Color that same year.

The last entry in the series was Xbox 360 launch title Perfect Dark Zero back in 2005. Well, last new entry. In 2010, Microsoft published a remastered version of the 2000 original game.
