Infinite 1UP glitch found in 30-year-old Super Mario Bros.

A glitch in Super Mario Bros. has been found which provides the player with infinite 1UPs, providing you can stand kicking Buzzy Beetles for minutes on end.

You can see how infinite 1UPs were accomplished in the video below, but note that around the halfway mark, it's Mario holding onto a beanstalk kicking beetles over and over and over again. I had to stop watching.

The speedrun at the beginning was a bit stressful for me to watch as well. Bad memories of falling and all that.

Over on Retrocollect, an explanation on how the glitch work is posted. Note though, you will have to beat the game first so that the beetles will take the place of the goombas in that level.

"First, you must first take player one's Mario to the second level of the game and throw away your first life. With Luigi taking over, player two must traverse all the way to World 5-2 and find the hidden beanstalk block halfway through the stage. Once there, Luigi must start climbing the vines, however, he must await - and take on the chin - an incoming projectile from one of the Hammer Bros. Upon being hit, once player one resumes control of Mario, the beanstalk from World 5-2 will start growing in World 1-2, providing all you need to infinitely kick shells for unlimited bonuses."

It's madness, really. Thanks, Shack.
