inFamous 2 director on user-created content, "smashing in people's faces"

In an interview with GameSpot, inFamous 2 game director Nate Fox has talked about seamlessly integrated UGC, importing your inFamous 1 save game and "smashing in people's faces."

Fox described why Sucker Punch decided to implement user-generated content (UGC) and how it will be integrated into the main game:

"We saw [LittleBigPlanet] and that just blew our doors off," Fox said. "Here they were letting people have the fun of making games, and when we were making inFamous 1 we had this big open world, and we were placing villians and placing traps - it's fun to do. We wanted to give that to players."

He added: "The best part about it is that these missions just show up in your gameworld, so while you're running through the mainline story path you can just decide, 'I'm going to try one of these UGC missions' - you don't need to go to a database online to download it, it just shows up in New Marais. You know they're going to be good because they're selected by Sucker Punch."

Fox went on to explain how the type of UGC missions that show up in the game world can be controlled by the player using filters. This means you can choose only to have those approved by Sucker Punch, open it up to every type of UGC, or limit it by mission type - puzzle- or story-based missions, for example.

UGC is only part of the new-look inFamous, though. Cole's been given a new melee weapon for the sequel to allow you to get up close and personal, Fox said this is as a result of fan feedback.

"When we shipped inFamous 1 we kept getting the same message over and over again: 'I just want to smash people's face in'," Fox explained. "It's kind of the superhero thing, right? You just want to take your fists and knock somebody's block off - that's what you see in these classic superhero adventures, so we want to do it right."

Finally, Fox went on to talk about how you'll be able to continue with your character from inFamous 1, having the decisions you made and your Karmic standing from the first game carry over to the sequel.

inFamous is due out exclusively for PS3 on June 7 in the US and June 10 in the UK.
