Howard: No avenue for Skyrim mod tools on consoles - yet

Bethesda's Todd Howard has said the developer has the latest Elder Scrolls mod tools up and running on both major consoles, but has no channel through which to release them.

“It works on all the consoles. As far as the 360 and PS3, right now there’s not an avenue for us to make that available," the Skyrim director told Edge.

"But we’d very much like to find a way. We have talked to Microsoft and Sony, and so there's a chance it might happen one day, [but] I don't see it happening for release."

Howard added that denying the toolset to such a large slice of the audience is a pity.

“I think it's something really cool about what we do, but 90 per cent of our audience is on the consoles, so 90 per cent of our audience can't even see this thing. So if we can solve that we'd like to.”

It doesn't seem impossible, does it? Some sort of toolset-lite or mission editor would, for example, fit right in with Sony's Play.Create.Share banner, and be a hell of a reason to choose one console version over another.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is due on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 11.
