Homefront server demand "outstripped expectations", analyst predicts "decent" sales

THQ has struggled to meet launch day demand on Homefront servers, while analysts dismiss the game's review score spread and predict "decent" sales.

A message on the Homefront Twitter suggested Kaos is working on installing new multiplayer servers.

"Demand for dedicated servers outstripped expectations. Though we're thrilled by the popularity, please bear with us as we bring more online".

Homefront uses dedicated servers for both PC and console, and does not implement a peer-to-peer hosting solution.

Inflated server demand may indicate a better sales performance than a patchy review spread - and resulting drop in THQ stock - suggest.

Gamasutra reports analyst Doug Creutz is confident the game will make its minimum break even target.

"Homefront has been building buzz up to the launch date so we believe the title will still be a decent seller for THQ despite mixed reviews," he said.

"It is clear that Homefront has not lived up to expectations in terms of game quality," the analyst commented.

"While this will likely hamper the title's ability to achieve breakout success, we still feel reasonably confident that it will achieve sales of 2MM units, and see no reason to change our estimates at this time".
