HMV will meet with UK game publishers to discuss chain's future this week

HMV will reportedly meet with UK game publishers this week, in a bid to secure a place for gaming in the retailer's revised strategy. It comes after HMV administrators Deloitte made most of the company's game arm redundant, casting doubt on the matter.

MCV understands that HMV will meet with the publishers this week to discuss the issue. It comes six days after buyer Hilco rescued 141 stores and over 2,500 jobs across the UK.

Sources close to HMV have told the site that games are very much part of the retailer's strategy, cooling fears that the brand was set to drop them. Concerns were raised after Hilco promised to focus HMV's stock on 'sound and vision', suggesting that music and film would be the primary focus going forward.

The boss at one UK publisher told MCV, "It’s good news they are still around. But what happened to HMV’s games team doesn’t fill me with confidence. We definitely want HMV to hang around in games. They help us reach a broader audience, and add gravitas for game launches.”
