Smedley's studio pulls Hero's Song project off Kickstarter after one week

John Smedley's new studio has pulled its Hero's Song project off Kickstarter one week after launching.

During the first week, the project was backed by 3,037 who donated $136,849 toward the $800,000 funding goal.

According to an update on the Kickstarter page, Pixelmage Games felt it wasn't going to reach its goal.

"After looking at our funding levels and the reality that we aren't going to reach our funding goals, we've decided that the best thing to do is to end the Kickstarter," reads the update. "We sincerely appreciate all of the support we got from the backers and the Kickstarter community.

"This was our first Kickstarter and we made mistakes along the way. We put a lot of time and effort into the Kickstarter, but it's obvious missing things like physical goods hampered our efforts. It's also fair to say because we're early that we didn't have enough gameplay to show the game off enough to get people over the hump."

As Smedley previous stated, the game will still be developed thanks to private investors "backing" the project "all the way."

Hero’s Song is still on track for release in October, and a pre-Alpha and beta are expected in June and August, respectively.

The game will be released for PC and will run customers $19.99. A $49.99 Collector’s Edition will be made available as well, but it will not contain any extra in-game content.
