Here's why Guardians are so excited about Destiny 2's Curse of Osiris - full trailer breakdown with new loot and story details

Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris has broken cover at last. Let's get hype.

The first trailer for Destiny 2 expansion Curse of Osiris dropped during the jam-packed Paris Games Week PlayStation stream, and everyone's pretty excited.

If you're new to the shared-worlds shooter, or just not up to speed on all the lore and minutiae, here's Arekkz explaining why the trailer made some fans lose their s**t over Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris. We'll go through it in text scene by scene below the embed.

The trailer leads into the story of Osiris by giving us a shot of Ikora Rey, the Warlock Vanguard, studying the reawakened Traveler. Ikora is one of the most powerful and knowledgeable Guardians ever, but even she had a mentor - and that mentor was the titular Osiris. Thanks to that connection, we're expecting to learn more about her, and maybe her network of Hidden agents, throughout this DLC.

The next few shots show us brand new environments, and if the link with Osiris weren't enough to make it obvious, the heavy Vex architecture on display shows that our robotic pals are at the forefront this time - and maybe with some new enemy types. We don't know where these environments are located but we do know Curse of Osiris makes Mercury a playable patrol zone in Destiny 2, so it's a pretty safe bet. There's also an area that looks a little like the Reef, which has story connections to Osiris.

Next up we get to see the man himself, Osiris. Although he hasn't appeared in game before, we know a lot about Osiris and his history thanks to D1's Grimoire, hints included with the House of Wolves add-on and its Trials of Osiris activity, and story content squirrelled away in the recesses of Destiny 2. Without going on a deep dive here, Osiris was formerly the Vanguard Commander and a sort of apprentice to the Speaker.

Osiris was exiled from the City due to his unorthodox theories on the Darkness and his mounting obsession with the Vex (Lysander, the likewise exiled leader of the disbanded City faction the Concordat, argued that Osiris isn't even human). He eventually founded a cult on Mercury, and there are definite hints that Osiris, Eris Morn and Mara Sov, the Queen of the Reef now believed dead, have been working together to some mysterious end, too. Right now, there's some suggestion he may be stuck in the Vex network.

So yeah: Osiris is a pretty interesting guy and we're all excited to find out more about him. We're also excited for new loot - Osiris has a unique armour and Ghost, and we're hoping to see those as in-game items. He also seems to be carrying a new weapon - an ornate auto rifle that may be a new Exotic.

Speaking of Exotics, the trailer shows the Jade Rabbit, an Exotic we now expect to return in the DLC, and another weapon that looks a bit like Telesto, another D1 Exotic. There's some gorgeous Vex-inspired armour on show, too, and another new weapon. Plenty of good stuff to collect, then.

Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris releases on December 5.
