Here's what Microsoft is doing to make transferring games and settings to Xbox One X easy

If you already own an Xbox One and plan to pick up Xbox One X in November, there are a couple of ways that'll make the transition as easy as possible.

During Microsoft's live show at gamescom, Xbox's Mike Ybarra came on to talk about how existing owners will be able to transfer their games and settings to Xbox One X.

This can be done in three ways. First, for console and user settings, you'll be able to back those up on an external drive. If you have this drive connected when you initialise your Xbox One X, it'll apply those settings and save you the trouble of redoing them.

For games, and because many of the titles getting 4K patches will receive them before the console launches, you'll be able to patch the games and transfer them using an external driver, the same way you can do today between two Xbox One consoles.

The biggest addition, however, is the ability to transfer the data over the home network, similar to the solution Sony provided to PS4 Pro owners. Ybarra didn't detail the process, but he did confirm that you'll need to enable the feature on both consoles and let them do the rest.

Here's a snippet of the interview:

During the same show, Microsoft unveiled the Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition. This version will be available while supplies last, at no extra charge, and includes a vertical stand.

The console itself includes a special design with Project Scorpio branding on the front, as well as the controller. The company also opened up pre-orders at all big retailers.

Xbox One X launches November 7.
