Here's a side-scrolling PvP shooter about space pirates not developed by the Life is Strange team

Life is Strange developer Dontnod Entertainment didn't make this.

"Developer doesn't make game" is a strange headline but this game announce is confusing enough that it seems the most appropriate response.

See, Battlecrew: Space Pirates was developed by Dontnod Eleven. Who or what is Dontnod Eleven? According to the first paragraph of the announcement press release:

"Dontnod Eleven, formerly known as Hesaw, is an independent video game studio, recently renamed following a growing collaboration with Dontnod Entertainment, the studio behind the acclaimed narrative driven adventure game Life is Strange, and currently developing the awaited action RPG Vampyr, with the purpose of sharing knowledge, expertise and resources in the years to come."

And then from the "about" footers generally attached to press releases:

"Dontnod Eleven and Dontnod Entertainment are not affiliated."

It's not super clear but it does seem like Dontnod Entertainment is not directly involved with Battlecrew: Space Pirates like, at all, and the two companies are trying to make that as clear as possible despite the development team's confusing name. But in the meantime, Battlecrew: Space Pirates is benefiting from a bit of extra attention.

So anyway: Battlecrew: Space Pirates is a side-scrolling competitive multiplayer team shooter with a colourful cast of characters, each with unique attack, defense, and movement attributes. It's coming soon to Steam Early Access.

Between matches players are encouraged to hang out in the social space, Tortuga, to find teams to play with, look at leaderboards and sign up for challenges. Dontnod Eleven is hoping to bring the game to life through community engagement, and players can unlock characters, environments, and game modes by winning regularly-updated group events.
