Hearthstone's next expansion is Knights of the Frozen Throne, out in August

Knights of the Frozen Throne is the next expansion for Hearthstone. The new expansion takes the fight to Northrend this August.

Blizzard announced today that Knights of the Frozen Throne brings nine new legendary Hero Cards that transform Hearthstone heroes into Death Knights when they're played.

This grants them modified powers and changes their look to include frost-rimed armour. The biggest new power though is Lifesteal, which heals you when you do damage. The expansion comes with free missions that will take you to iconic places from Warcraft lore.

This series of missions will ultimately allow you to challenge the Lich King himself, but not before facing off against Professor Putricide and Sindragosa in boss battles. If you finish the prologue mission, you'll get a random legendary Death Knight Hero Card for free.

As always, Knights of the Frozen Throne card packs can be acquired in the game's Arena mode. You can also purchase them with in-game gold or real money. It comes with 135 new cards, and starting today, you can pre-order special Knights packs in a 50-pack bundle for $50. Much like with previous expansions, you can only do this once per account.

Forking out early for the packs will also get you a "unique themed card." You can find out more details in the video announcement above, or at the official link.

Knights of the Frozen Throne releases in early August for PC, Android, and iOS. No specific release date has been set.
