The League of E.V.I.L. invades Hearthstone with the Rise of Shadows update

Five bad guys from previous Hearthstone decks are back in the next expansion, Rise of Shadows.

A group of five, previous Hearthstone enemies have returned to form their very own group called the League of E.V.I.L.

Each member brings their own unique twist, calling back to the expansions which first introduced the characters. The dastardly members were recruited by Arch-Thief Rafaam and include King Togwaggle, Madame Lazul, Dr. Boom, and Hagatha the Witch.

The League of E.V.I.L. also has Lackeys. These 1/1 minions have a variety of Battlecries and are "crucial" to the main baddies. There are five different types, one for each villain.

You will find new spells that grow in power with each turn while in-hand, and a set of callback cards will feature effects paying homage to Hearthstone sets that included the League of E.V.I.L.’s members.

Should you decide to play the villain, be on the lookout for a bunch of do-gooders called the Defenders of Dalaran. This group can wield Twinspells. Once cast, the spell will generate a copy of the character which can be cast again on a later turn. More information the Defenders of Dalaran will be shared at a later date.

Rise of Shadows will also kick off Hearthstone’s first-ever yearlong story line, with 135 new cards and new mechanics.

If you pre-purchase a 50-pack bundle, you'll be handed a Jewel of Lazul card back and a random Legendary. The 80-pack Mega Bundle will also include the card back, a random golden Legendary, and the Madame Lazul Priest Hero. Alternatively, you can also purchase both.

Card packs will be winnable in Hearthstone’s Arena mode, and can be purchased with in-game gold or real money at the same price as other Hearthstone packs.

Hearthstone: Rise of Shadows releases April 9.
