Hearthstone expansion to add more than 100 new cards

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft's first real expansion will add a huge amount of new content.

Hearthstone's Curse of Naxxramas single-player campaign is still pretty new, but Blizzard is already thinking about what to do next.

According to production director Jason Chayes, the developer intends to "mix it up a little bit" with its next content drop, which will be the card battler's first expansion pack.

"It will have a lot more cards. We're talking about more than 100. We are going to have a central theme for how that will all fit together. That'll be the next thing coming up," he told Polygon.

Chayes said Blizzard's tiny Hearthstone team spends "a lot of time talking about pacing" in terms of the rollout of new content.

"We really want to make sure the pacing is great not just for seasoned Hearthstone players but for new players coming into the game too," he said.

"We really want to pay attention to how that is for the entirety of the player base. Does that feel like the right amount of content? Is it too little? Is it too much? We feel like this is a good starting point."

As part of this approach, Blizzard can "imagine a future" where single-player adventures and major expansions are "intermixed to have different sorts of experiences going out over the course of a year".

The full interview, available through the link above, includes discussion of the possibility of new modes and how Blizzard hopes to avoid the card glut problems of games like Magic: The Gathering.
