Hasbro originally denied the inclusion of Dinobots in Transformers: Fall of Cybertron

High Moon Studios were denied in their original pitch to include the Dinobots in Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, because Hasbro didn't feel that their inclusion was in line with series canon.

In an interview with Polygon, High Moon Studios game director Matt Tieger explained that the issue lay with the game's extraterrestrial setting. As the title is set in the Transformers' homeworld of Cybertron, it didn't make sense for the Dinobots to be present, due to the their Earth-based origins.

In addition, it seemed that Hasbro were concerned that any nostalgia attached to the Dinobots by older fans would be lost on the new generation of fans that Hasbro were targeting.

Following a revision of the Dinobots origin story, as well as a few other narrative and gameplay changes, Hasbro finally approved their inclusion.

"Purely selfishly," Tieger said, "it is a dream to be able to work on one of my favorite franchises of all time and then reinvigorate and rediscover my favorite character. It's fantastic. What other job [lets you] do stuff like that?"

The sequel to Transformers: War for Cybertron, Fall of Cybertron is due for release this August on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
