Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery adds pets - for a price

Wizards in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery can now add a pet to their dorm.

Players can own up to four pets - one of each type; owl, rat, cat and toad.

They're not free though. Hogwarts Mystery has a reputation for penny-pinching, and the latest update is no different.

Each pet has a different price, using the in-game Gems currency. The cheapest are the frog and rat, which will cost you 160 gems each.

In real money it costs £4.99 to buy 130 gems in-game. This being a mobile game, you can't just buy the amount of gems you need. The cat costs 215 gems while the owl costs a whopping 320 gems.

Here's the prices and the cost of gems, for context:

You can earn gems in the game, but it's notoriously stingy when it comes to handing them out.

Pets aren't just cosmetic - you can choose one at a time as a companion to join you around Hogwarts locations, and pets provide an energy boost when woken from a slumber.
