ESPN and Xbox have teamed up to bring Halo 5: Guardians to the X Games in Aspen from January 28 through 31.

The Halo World Championship Tour: X Games Aspen Invitational will see eight international teams go head to head in a single-elimination bracket tournament, with $30,000 up for grabs.

Participants also have a chance to earn X Games medals, and highlights from the tourney will be broadcast alongside other X Games events - the first time eSports have been integrated so completely in the event.

343 Industries and Halo boss Bonnie Ross said this is part of Microsoft's plans to grow Halo as an eSport.

"We are committed to the long-term growth of Halo eSports through world-class events and the expansion of viewership around the globe," she said.
