Guitar Hero not dead, just "on hiatus"

Activision has spoken out about the once mammoth Guitar Hero, saying that "the brand won't go away", even if the publisher not planning a new title in the series for the foreseeable future.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Activision's Dan Winters said:

"Actually, just to clarify, we're just putting Guitar Hero on hiatus, we're not ending it. We're releasing products out of the vault - we'll continue to sustain the channel, the brand won't go away. We're just not making a new one for next year, that's all."

The brand had previously been axed during a round of cuts, with Activision stating it was to concentrate on a number of 'tentpole' titles. Jobs were shed around the same time, and Activision released the following concerning the Guitar Hero franchise:

"Due to continued declines in the music genre, the company will disband Activision Publishing's Guitar Hero business unit and discontinue development on its Guitar Hero game for 2011."

Owners of plastic peripherals everywhere may wish to hold off selling their stash, for the time being at least.
