Guild Wars 2 content planned out "for years to come"

ArenaNet's development schedule for Guild Wars 2 extends far beyond launch plans.

Speaking to Eurogamer, senior vice president Randall Price said ArenaNet already has long term plans for what's in the pipeline for the anticipated MMORPG post-release.

"We have development plans in our back pocket for literally years to come," he said.

"We today know a number of the high-level features that we're going to do, and expansion content for years to come," he added.

"It's not drilled down in a way that is - it's all at the five-thousand foot level and above, from a big picture. But every month we go through time, we get closer and it gets down and, OK, now we're actually creating content for it."

Guild Wars 2, like its precursor, will not rely on subscriptions, but ArenaNet still sees the value in providing a long shadow of future content.

"We're launching a service - you don't launch a box and be done with it. We have years of awesome, fun work ahead of us," Price reiterated.

Currently, the developer is working on pre-purchase schemes and beta events, but n the medium term, it expects to develop a pipeline for patches and content updates.

Guild Wars 2 is expected to launch later this year and is currently in closed beta testing; there's an event this very weekend for those lucky enough to have invites.
