5% of GTA Online and Red Dead Online in-game purchases to be donated to coronavirus relief efforts

Rockstar will help fight coronavirus by donating money.

GTA and Red Dead Redemption developer Rockstar has announced that it's going to donate 5% of revenue made through its online games between April 1 and May 31 to coronavirus relief efforts.

This covers both GTA Online and Red Dead Online. Any spending players do across both games is taken into account. So everything from virtual currencies to buying cosmetics and so on.

Rockstar's statement didn't specify exactly which organisations would benefit from the donations, but the developer promised to share more "as things progress." Though it may seem like a small percentage, it's worth keeping in mind that most of Take-Two and Rockstar's revenue is generated by in-game purchases.

Considering how popular both games already are (GTA Online recently set new record for active players), and the fact they're getting increased traffic alongside many other online games due to worldwide lockdowns, the end sum is likely to be hefty.
