Sci-fi author Greg Bear's to write the Halo Forerunner Trilogy, according to this Kotaku piece, a series set 100,000 years before the events in the games.
The books will explore the ancient Forerunner race and their ties to humanity, as shown in Halo 3.
The first novel's out in 2010.
