Gran Turismo Sport will host a closed beta beginning March 17.

The test will be open to US-based PSN members only. According to the PlayStation Blog, "the time differences across the US are best matched" to the Gran Turismo Sport team's Tokyo schedule. Makes sense; peak gaming time is afternoon and evening, which in the US overlaps with Japanese office hours.

Update: PlayStation Australia said European PSN members will be able to participate in Phase 2 of the Gran Turismo Sport closed beta, so don't worry - you won't miss out.

The Gran Turismo Sport beta will initially be open to only a few participants and will gradually expand as time goes on. Keep an eye on your PSN Messages inbox to see if you've made it in.

Those who are invited will experience a range of content - rather than being restricted to a limited number of cars and tracks for the duration of the Gran Turismo Sport test, there'll be a selection on offer, rotating every day. Polyphony aims to test a range of class categories and course configurations, so it shouldn't get dull.

As well as online races, Gran Turismo Sport closed beta participants will get to try out the new Driver Profile system, complete with Sportsmanship Rating and Driver Rating, which affect matchmaking.

Gran Turismo Sport releases this year for PS4.

More details on the Gran Turismo Sport closed beta, including exact daily opening times, will be shared closer to the start date.
