Gore Verbinski: Budget concerns are slowing - not sinking - BioShock movie

Big Daddies on the big screen? Not for a while, according to producer Gore Verbinski.

But hey, how about this Big Momma's House movie? Sounds like a real winner to us!

"We don't want to dumb it down, we don't want to make it PG-13. We want to keep it really edgy, and it's a huge bill," Verbinski told IGN.

"We're really down the road with Juan Carlos [Fresnadillo] and right now it's really a budget thing and how to keep the integrity and keep it a Hollywood movie because it could balloon. It's a lot. Our first budget was extraordinarily high and we're working on it."

Fresnadillo, if you'll recall, recently put the BioShock film on hold in order to work another project called "Intruders." Between that and Prince of Persia's un-rewindable bellyflop, one might be forgiven for thinking that BioShock's simply a lost cause altogether. Not so, says Verbinski.

"No, I think BioShock's a rare one because it's actually a great story," he said. "Me? I don't want to make movies based on videogames, but BioShock's the one Oedipal, crazy kind of - it's just got really good bones, and we're really trying to figure out a way to make it work."

Take your time, Gore. The Mortal Kombat movie looked to be wobbling at the fatality screen for a while there too, and look at it now.
