Empire's voted Gordon Freeman as its greatest video game character of all time. All hail to the combine-killing, crowbar-wielding Freeman!

Mario came second in the list, with System Shock's Shodan third, Planetscape: Torment's Nameless One in fourth and Lara Croft in fifth.

The top ten is finished off by Sephiroth of Final Fantasy VII, narrowly beaten in the top ten by Lemmings from... umm ...Lemmings, Halo's Master Chief, Guybrush Threepwood from Monkey Island and Link from The Legend of Zelda.
