God of War, Spider-Man, Detroit Become Human appear to no longer be on sale on Amazon

Amazon seems to be having an issue with major Sony first-party games like the upcoming God of War, Spider-Man, and Detroit Become Human.

All three games have confirmed release dates, which usually means they should be available to pre-order on Amazon. In fact, many games with yet-unannounced dates can be pre-ordered.

For some reason, though, Sony's first-party line-up comes up as 'currently unavailable', which is a step removed from the usual 'out of stock' alert that accompanies games with limited stock. "We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock," is what you'll see on store pages for God of War, Spider-Man, and Detroit Become Human.

This is particularly interesting because God of War officially releases in just a few days. Amazon UK's video game top sellers list doesn't feature God of War, which is bizarre for a game as highly anticipated as God of War.

This could indicate that there's some dispute between Sony and Amazon that's preventing the latter from stocking the company's games. Amazon, being the massive retailer that it is, sometimes imposes certain conditions on companies that have to do with stock allowance and profit margin.

Amusingly, you can buy a PSN wallet top-up for the value of God of War's PlayStation Store price, £55.

We initially thought this problem only affected Amazon UK, but a quick search on Amazon US reveals a similar situation. All three games also carry the same 'currently unavailable' warning, with the sole exception being God of War's $150 Stone Mason's Edition, which is being sold by Amazon directly (old stock, perhaps?).

Things are a little bit different in America, though, as you can clearly see God of War topping the best-selling chart, meaning it was available for sale at some point. That said, the message customers should be seeing is your typical 'out of stock', not 'currently unavailable'.

Members of gaming forum ResetEra are posting conflicted reports about the states of their pre-orders. Several UK customers contacted Amazon support to get an answer.

Some received the standard "you can cancel before dispatch if it doesn't arrive on time" response, while others were assured their orders have been "assigned" and that they should arrive on Friday, the game's worldwide release date.

The issue appears to be isolated to Sony's first-party games at this time, seeing as you can order other PS4 exclusives like Yakuza 6. PS4 versions of other upcoming releases like the Spyro Trilogy, Shadow of the Tomb Raider are also easily available.

We've asked Sony and Amazon for comment.
