God of War: Ascension dev explains why moral choices wouldn't have worked in-game

God of War: Ascension will show raging Spartan Kratos in a new light. While it'll focus on his more human side, it's not going to whittle him down to a wimpy idiot. Sony's Santa Monica Studio has explained what it wanted to achieve in revealing the human backstory of Kratos, and why player-defined moral choices wasn't an option.

Speaking with GameTrailers, God of War: Ascension game director Todd Pappy was quizzed about the studio's insight into the man behind the blades.

"It's more an emotional story-telling", Pappy confirmed. "We want to show Kratos in a little bit of a different light, show a little more of his human side, and that's what we've focused on."

But don't expect moral choices, Pappy warned, "It is a linear adventure, so when you start introducing moral choices - especially with Kratos - fans aren't going to get those moral choices. They'd smash [enemies] and they'd go away."

What he's saying is, 'let your blades do the talking and decision making'. Just kill everything that moves, essentially. We've had hands-on with the first 30 minutes of the God of War: Ascension campaign. You can check out our full impressions and interview with Pappy here.

What do you think about the decision to avoid moral choices? Was it the best move, or could it have thrown up some interesting questions about the origins of Kratos? Let us know below.
