Genshin Impact: Hymnal Rings | How to complete hymnal ring puzzles

There are several hymnal rings puzzles found in various major locations around the Golden Apple Archipelago in Genshin Impact's Midsummer Island Adventure.

Hymnal ring challenges are just one of the uses of your Wind-Blessed Harpastum, a gadget you can obtain during Midsummer Island Adventure by completing the Summer Vacation: Proceed with Caution quest.

There are a total of 18 hymnal ring puzzles found around the Golden Apple Archipelago, three of which have higher difficulty level variants that respawn over time. While most of the puzzles are environmental, one on Minacious Isle needs to be solved to complete The Winding Homeward Way quest.

How to use the Wind-Blessed Harpastum to complete hymnal ring puzzles

The core mechanic of these puzzles is fairly simple. Equip your Harpastum and throw it through the centre of the hymnal rings to complete a puzzle — often by hitting a target at the end.

There are, naturally, a few potential complications. Activating a ring identifies it with an element, and throwing the Harpastum will modify its element to match that of the last ring it passed through. If the puzzle's final stage is an Elemental Target, then the Harpastum needs to pass through a matching ring last before hitting the target.

Some hymnal rings can be turned and need to be manually moved into position by the player character before they align properly to complete the puzzle.

Meanwhile, Twister Rings change the direction of the Harpastum according to where their arrows are facing. Some are constantly in motion under their own power, meaning you'll need to time your throw properly to complete the puzzle.

Finally, Reprise Rings cause the Harpastum to split into two harpasta when it passes through.

Finding the solutions to these puzzles is largely a matter of trial and error, and as far as we're aware you're never penalised for making a mistake. However, if you're keen to get them done or just really stuck, read on below for the solutions to all the hymnal rings puzzles on the Golden Apple Archipelago.

How to complete hymnal ring challenges on Menacious Isle in Genshin Impact

Minacious Isle needs to be unlocked to the second level before most of its features become available. Once you uncover the whole island map, you can begin attempting the hymnal ring puzzles.

There are three environmental hymnal ring puzzles on Menacious Isle, plus the "Seelie Ring" puzzle that's part of the quest The Winding Homeward Way.

Minacious Isle Hymnal Ring Puzzle #1 (both difficulty levels)

The first Minacious Isle puzzle is located on the south side of the island's central beach. It features three hymnal rings and a target.

The rings in this puzzle can all be rotated 90 degrees clockwise at a turn. To complete this puzzle, rotate the left-hand target three times and the right-hand target twice. Leave the central target alone, as it's already in the correct position.

Stand on the inset stone on the ground to activate the puzzle and throw your Harpastum through the left-hand ring. It will travel down the line and hit the target, at which point the nearby Common Chest will unlock.

Some time after completing this puzzle, it will respawn again at a higher difficulty level. You can see the respawned puzzle in this video from YouTuber WoW Quests, below:

In this iteration of the puzzle there are five turnable rings, which once again can only be turned 90 degrees clockwise at a time. There are also two fixed rings, and two targets.

To set up the correct solution, run over to the turnable ring furthest from the activation stone and turn it twice. Then, go to the ring directly to the right as you're facing the last one and turn it once.

Go back to the starting point and turn the ring directly to the right of the centre ring three times. Finally, interact with the central ring in front of the activation stone to activate its Reprise Ring power.

Stand on the activation stone and throw your Harpastum through the Reprise Ring. The two halves will travel down the parallel paths created by the remaining rings. They'll hit the two targets a second or so apart. Once both targets are down, the nearby Precious Chest will unlock.

Minacious Isle Hymnal Ring Puzzle #2 (both difficulty levels)

The second puzzle is located on a mountaintop in the north of the island's western side. It features only two rings, neither of which can be turned, and a target.

Start the puzzle by standing on the activation stone and the Twister Ring directly in front of you will begin to rotate on its own. All you need to do for this puzzle is time your throw so that the Harpastium passes through the Twister Ring at the right moment. This will probably require some trial and error, but as a guideline you should be aiming to hit it face-on while the arrows in the Twister Ring are pointed to the right.

Once you've done this, the projectile will pass through the second ring and hit the target. A nearby Common Chest will then unlock.

Some time after completing this puzzle, it will respawn again at a higher difficulty level. You can see the respawned puzzle in this video from YouTuber WoW Quests, below:

This iteration moves the target to the other end of the course, and replaces the original target with a third, turnable ring that can be rotated 90 degrees clockwise. The other two rings still cannot be manually rotated, so don't worry about them for now.

To complete this version of the puzzle, rotate the new ring (which is the furthest to the right as you face the puzzle) through three rotations. Stand on the activation stone and throw your Harpastum through that turnable ring you just adjusted.

Unfortunately, it's difficult if not impossible to do this while keeping the Twister Ring in view. Therefore, your best bet is probably to spam your throws as quickly as you can until you manage to get the timing right and hit the target. An Exquisite Chest will then unlock nearby.

Minacious Isle Hymnal Ring Puzzle #3

The third puzzle takes place on a cliff edge above the island's south-western beach. Your aim here is in theory simple: to target your Harpastum through a single hymnal ring, and hit a target on some rocks out to sea directly below it.

All you have to do here is manage your shot through the ring so it doesn't miss or bounce back. You'll need to aim higher than you probably think, either aiming at the upper edge of the ring or slightly above it, in order to hit its centre by the time the projectile reaches it.

After you hit the target, the Exquisite Chest next to the puzzle's activation stone will unlock.

Seelie Ring Puzzle on Minacious Isle ("The Winding Homeward Way" Quest)

To activate this quest, head to the area just above the inland lake partway up the island's western mountain.

You'll encounter a Seelie here; follow it and investigate the area when prompted to begin the Seelie Ring Puzzle.

Your prompt for this stage of the quest is to "Light up all the Elemental Monuments in the correct order." There are three rings on the ground. The elements of the rings are important this time, with Hydro (dark blue) on the left and Pyro (red) on the right when faced from the cliff side, which is where you should stand to complete the puzzle. The central ring doesn't have an element, but can be rotated through different numbered positions when interacted with.

First, activate the Cryo and Anemo monuments by simply interacting with them (in that order), as they're at ground level.

To activate the Pyro monument, set the central ring to Position 2. Throw the Harpastum through the Pyro ring to activate the Pyro monument, which is one the overhanging cliff above.

Finally, to activate the Hydro monument, set the central ring back to Position 1 and throw the Harpastum through the Hydro ring to activate the Hydro monument, which like the Pyro one is on the underside of a cliff overhang.

Defeat the enemies that spawn and follow the Seelie through the portal that's just opened, destroying some debris when it blocks your path.

Eventually the Seelie will settle on a platform, a Luxurious Chest will spawn, and the quest will complete.

How to complete all hymnal ring challenges on Pudding Isle in Genshin Impact

There are three hymnal ring puzzles on Pudding Isle. Compared to the other islands' puzzles, they're fairly simple.

Puzzle #1 is on the southwest beach of the larger (north) main island. This one is very easy to complete: all you need to do is stand on the activation stone, throw your Harpastum through the ring, and hit the target. A nearby Common Chest will unlock.

Puzzle #2 is also on a beach, this time near the southernmost point of the smaller (south) main island. This time there are three rings — including two Twister Rings — and a target. Once again, though, you just need to stand on the activation stone and throw your Harpastum through the first ring, and the puzzle should auto-complete. A Common Chest will then unlock atop a nearby rock formation.

Puzzle #3 is on the sandy strip of an island to the north of the main Pudding Isles, and is the only one on this island chain to require any additional action on your part. There are three hymnal rings in a row on the land here, with a target out to sea on their left as you face them.

Turn the ring furthest from the activation stone through two 90 degree clockwise rotations. Then return to the activation stone and throw your Harpastum through the nearest one. A Common Chest underneath the target will unlock.

How to complete hymnal ring challenges on Twinning Isle in Genshin Impact

Twinning Isle is home to seven hymnal ring puzzles, spread across several different islands on the chain.

Twinning Isle Hymnal Ring Puzzle #1

This puzzle can be found by the sea at the southernmost point of the north main island. This puzzle features four hymnal rings that can be adjusted in various ways, and require you to clamber around the nearby rocks a bit to turn some of them.

From nearest to furthest: there is no need to adjust the closest ring's position. Move up the second ring once.

The third ring, reached by walking up a slope near the cliffs, needs to be adjusted to Position 1. The furthest ring is sticking out from the side of the cliff, so you need to climb up to adjust it. Adjust it to Position 2.

Return to the activation stone and throw your Harpastum through the nearest ring. After it hits the target, a nearby Exquisite Chest will unlock.

Twinning Isle Hymnal Ring Puzzle #2

This puzzle is located on a hilltop in the northwest area of the southern main island.

This is a very simple puzzle, with just one mid-air ring and a target directly behind it. Stand on the activation stone and throw your Harpastum. Be sure to aim high enough that the projectile makes it through the centre of the ring, otherwise it will bounce back.

Successfully hit the target to unlock a nearby Common Chest.

Twinning Isle Hymnal Ring Puzzle #3

This puzzle is on a beach just to the south of the last one, on the western coast of the southern main island.

It features four rings set out in a long line that follows the coast, and a target at the end.

The first three rings in the line can be turned 90 degrees clockwise at a time. Begin by turning the ring nearest to the activation stone through two rotations. The next ring in the line needs to be rotated once. Continue down the line, turning the third ring through three rotations.

Finally, adjust the fourth and final ring to Position 1, which will place it directly in front of the target.

Stand on the activation stone and throw your Harpastum through the ring directly in front of you. It's a Twister Ring, so it will redirect the projectile to follow the rest of the line further down the beach.

Once the Harpastum hits the target, an Exquisite Chest near the end of the line will unlock.

Twinning Isle Hymnal Ring Puzzle #4 (both difficulty levels)

This puzzle is on the beach, under the tall rock formations at the southernmost point of the main south island.

In the first version of the puzzle, there are three hymnal rings and an Electro elemental target. Rotate the nearest (Twister) hymnal ring through two 90 degree turns. Adjust the second ring (Electro) to position one — this will create an obvious line of sight through all three rings.

Finally, move the third ring (Hydro) nearest the target up, since its element doesn't match the target and so you actually need the Hypastum to miss this ring in order to succeed.

Once you've hit the target with the correct element on the Hypastum, the Common Chest next to the activation stone will unlock.

This time there will be seven hymnal rings and two targets that you need to hit with a single throw. The activation stone will be in a different spot too, so look out for its new location.

As with other two-target puzzles, this one features a single ring in front of the activation stone and two parallel lines of rings going towards the targets.

Facing the targets, run to the final ring before the right-hand target and adjust it to Position 1. Do the same thing to the final ring before the left-hand target.

The final ring you need to adjust is located directly behind the front ring and between two floating rings. Adjust it to Position 1 as well.

Standing on the activation stone will also activate the Reprise Ring powers of the front ring. Throw your Harpastum through this to split it into two Harpasta which will travel down the lines of rings and hit the targets.

This will unlock the Exquisite Chest next to the activation stone.

Twinning Isle Hymnal Ring Puzzle #5

The fifth puzzle is found on one of the smaller islands — the tall rocky islet just off the east coast of the main southern island.

For this one you literally just have to stand on the activation stone and fire your Harpastum through the hymnal ring to the target directly behind it to unlock a Common Chest. The main challenge here is scaling the steep cliff to reach it in the first place.

Twinning Isle Hymnal Ring Puzzle #6

The sixth puzzle is on the same sizable islet where you'll find the previous one. Fortunately this time you won't have to scramble to the top of the rocks, as the puzzle is located on the islet's southern beach.

This one has a similar initial set up to puzzle five, but with a twist. Once you stand on the activation stone, the sole hymnal ring between you and the target becomes a self-propelled Twister Ring that shimmies from side to side. Time your throw to send your Harpastum through its centre to hit the target and unlock a Common Chest.

Twinning Isle Hymnal Ring Puzzle #7

The seventh and final Twinning Isle puzzle is located on another islet, this one the easternmost in the island chain. Go to the island's northwest beach to get started.

This puzzle features three hymnal rings in an uneven line leading towards a target. Rotate the middle ring through two 90 degree clockwise rotations to set up the solution.

Return to the start and stand on the activation stone. Throw your Harpastum through the centre of the nearest ring and it will travel down the line and hit the target. This unlocks a Common Chest next to the stone.

How to complete hymnal ring challenges on Broken Isle in Genshin Impact

There are four hymnal ring puzzles found on Broken Isle.

Broken Isle Hymnal Ring Puzzle #1

The first puzzle is found on the north-western islet of Broken Isle, on the west beach. Notably, the activation stone is out to see, so you have to stand in shallow water while completing the puzzle.

There are four hymnal rings as you face them from the shallows, and a fifth ring out in the sea near the activation stone. Begin by rotating the third ring from the left as you face them through two 90 degree clockwise rotations. Then, swim out to the ring that's in the sea and rotate it 90 degrees clockwise once.

Stand on the activation stone and fire your Harpastum through the ring directly in front of you — the one you turned twice. This will send the projectile in a circle around you, ending by hitting the target on the cliffs above. An Exquisite Chest up on the rocks above the beach will then unlock.

Broken Isle Hymnal Ring Puzzle #2

The second puzzle is on the main island's central mountain, across the valley from the biggest upland lake. The activation stone can be found on a cliff edge, and the two important rings are all floating in mid-air, with the target on the lakeside mountaintop across the valley.

You can't adjust the Hymnal Rings here, so the first part of the challenge is aiming your Harpastum high enough to throw it through the centre of the nearer (Twister) ring. However, you also need to time your throw so the projectile then travels through the centre of a ring that's moving side-to-side.

Once you've managed to line up your shot, the Harpastum will ping through two more rings on the opposite mountaintop and then hit the target. Fly over there to claim the contents of an Exquisite Chest that just unlocked.

Broken Isle Hymnal Ring Puzzle #3

The third Broken Isle puzzle is on the cliff edge at the southwestern tip of the main island. This is a two-target puzzle, with nine hymnal rings forming two overlapping lines to the targets. It looks complicated, but fortunately the set-up is deceptively simple.

From the activation stone, run to the right and move the first ring you get to through three 90 degree clockwise rotations.

Return to the activation stone and aim your Harpastum through the Twister ring that is to your character's extreme left.

The auto-completion of the puzzle is certainly something to witness. Once both targets are down, the Precious Chest behind you will unlock.

Broken Isle Hymnal Ring Puzzle #4

The final Broken Isle puzzle is on a cliff edge just above the main island's south-central beach. The hymnal rings themselves are out to sea below.

There's no need to make any adjustments here, but the central of the three rings will begin to move from side-to-side when you stand on the activation stone. Fortunately it's quite slow, so throw your Harpastum through the first ring and the odds are good you'll make the shot on the first try.

The projectile will hit a target on a high rock out to sea, and an Exquisite Chest behind you will unlock.
